Black Soapstone
Soapstone is extracted from a quarry in Brazil, one of the largest exporters of natural stones in the world. Used by locals as cooking surface, it remains to this day relatively unknown.
The Black Soapstone offers a charcoal background with a delicate white vein. It is ideal as countertop or fireplace contour. Heat resistant, soapstone will allow the users to set down hot objects without fear of damaging the surface. Because it includes a considerable amount of talc, acids from foods will not create etching or discolouration. Soapstone is prone to scratching, therefore we recommend the use of cutting boards.
Because it is extremely dense, steatite is nonporous, naturally antibacterial and stain resistant. Soapstone has a factory-applied wax on the slab to bring out the colourations’ richness. Fibreglass is glued to the back of the stone to ensure safe manipulation and fabrication. Soapstone can be oiled every 4 to 6 months depending on usage, but it is not essential.
